Evaluating Conceptual Coherence in Multi-Modeling Techniques

چکیده
Meta-modeling is a well-known approach for capturing modeling methods and techniques. A meta-model can serve as a basis for quantitative evaluation of methods and techniques. By means of a number of formal metrics based on the meta-model, a quantitative evaluation of methods and techniques becomes possible. Existing meta-modeling languages and measurement schemes do not allow the explicit modeling of so-called multimodeling techniques. Multi-modeling techniques are techniques that offer a coherent set of aspect modeling techniques to model different aspects of a certain phenomenon. As a consequence, existing approaches lack metrics to quantitatively assess aspects that are particular to multi-modeling techniques. In this chapter, a modeling language for modeling multimodeling techniques is proposed as well as metrics for evaluating the coherent set of aspect modeling techniques that constitute the multimodeling technique. This chapter appears in the book, Information Modeling Methods and M thod logies, edited by John Krogstie, Terry Halpin and Keng Siau. Copyright © 2005, Idea Group Inc. Extending the Foundations of Ontology-Based Conceptual Modeling with a Multi-level Theory
Since the late 1980s, there has been a growing interest in the use of foundational ontologies to provide a sound theoretical basis for the discipline of conceptual modeling. This has led to the development of ontology-based conceptual modeling techniques whose modeling primitives reflect the conceptual categories defined in a foundational ontology. The ontology-based conceptual modeling languag...

متن کاملA Method for Building and Evaluating Formal Specifications of Object-Oriented Conceptual Models of Database Systems
This report describes a method called MCM (Method for Conceptual Modeling) for building and evaluating formal specifications of object-oriented models of database system behavior. An important aim of MCM is to bridge the gap between formal specification and informal understanding. Building a MCM model is a process that moves from the informal to the formal, evaluating the model is a process tha...
متن کاملGrounding Social Interactions in the Environment
While agents and environments are two intimately connected concepts, most approaches for multi-agent development focus on the agent-specific part of the system, whereas the handling of concerns related to the environment is often neglected or delegated to implementation level constructs. In this paper we demonstrate that building on an environment specification with expressive semantics is inst...
متن کاملPreserving Multi-view Consistency in Diagrammatic Knowledge Representation
Multi-view conceptual modeling provides means for representing, with diagrammatic means, the knowledge describing a "system under study" whose complexity cannot be captured in a single comprehensible representation. Typical examples are available in the field of enterprise modeling, where models are inherently layered or partitioned, a feature that must be enabled at meta-modeling level by mean...
